The data, supplied by the police and Derbyshire County Council, has revealed that more than 80 per cent of calls to vulnerable, elderly, and disabled people in the county are regarded as ‘nuisance’ calls.

One 91–year–old victim, from Derbyshire, said the calls were making her life ‘hell’.

To combat this, the council has piloted a new call–blocking gadget to help victims, and promises to invest £5,000 to roll the project out to those in need. The gadget features a call screening service to allow the householder to accept or reject certain types of calls.
