RESIDENTS and community groups are being urged not to miss the deadline for Derbyshire County Council’s next round of Community Action Grant funding.
The council introduced the grants last June with a £250,000 funding pot to be awarded by the end of 2012.
Grants of up to £1,000 are available to small not-for-profit groups and organisations to support their work to help build strong and flourishing communities.
The first grants were awarded in September with 57 groups receiving a share of £41,323 and a further £39,936 was awarded to 51 groups in the second phase in December. The deadline for the third funding round is Friday, January 27.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health Councillor Carol Hart said: “We’re very lucky to have some fantastic community groups in Derbyshire who do a lot for their local area, often with very little money.
“We know a Community Action Grant could make a real difference to the kind of services they can offer locally and that they know best about where funding can be used to provide the most benefit.
“Dozens of groups who successfully applied for funding last year are already putting their grants to good use and there’s still time to apply for the next round. Just drop us a line!”
Successful bids will include activities or projects that allow local people to improve life locally. They must also support the council’s key social, economic and environmental priorities. This means grants could, for example, pay for:
* Local events and activities for teenagers
* Street and community improvement grants
* Play equipment
* Care, support or activity groups for older people Projects to receive Community Action Grants so far include children’s play schemes, community orchards, allotment projects and camping equipment for Scouts.
The deadline for the third round of grants is Friday 27 January.
