Driver escapes speeding ban

A DUFFIELD man has avoided a driving ban despite being caught speeding four times in three years.

Peter Smith, of Gilbert Crescent, admitted driving at 38mph on a 30mph road in Derby.

But the 39-year-old gas fitter escaped a ban after telling Derby magistrates that a disqualification would affect his family and the career of his apprentice.

Smith, who told the court that he drives 15,000 work miles a year, had three points put on his licence and was given a £116 fine. He was also ordered to pay £35 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
