A drink-driver who was spotted swigging wine as he drove past police has been banned from the road for 18 months.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Simon Goodman, 58, of Boythorpe Crescent, Chesterfield, was tested by police after he parked up on Low Pavements, in Chesterfield.
Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said Goodman had sounded his horn before going round the police car while drinking from a bottle of wine and parking outside a bank.
Goodman pleaded guilty to exceeding the drink-drive limit after registering 62microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath after the incident on February 10.
David Gittins, defending, said Goodman had been drinking at home and went out to get cash for his electricity meter. Magistrates ordered Goodman to pay £235 in costs, a fine and a victim surcharge.
