Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, July 18, how Liann Norman, 40, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing the booze from the Aldi store, on High Street, at Clay Cross on April 6.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “She was seen on CCTV to take the bottles of alcohol valued at £69.96 and that property was not recovered.

“When she was interviewed by police there was a pre-prepared statement from the defendant saying she could not remember being in the store on that day but if there was footage she would not dispute it.”

Norman also admitted breaching her post-sentence supervision requirements by failing to meet with the probation service after she was previously released from prison.

And she also admitted failing to comply with a suspended sentence order by failing to meet with a supervising probation officer.

Defence solicitor David Gittins said Norman is a class A drug-addict who is homeless and is separated from her partner and has no contact with her children and has no income.

He added that her recent problems began after she had been unwell and was not able to collect a prescription to cope with her addiction and her medication was stopped and she disengaged with the probation service.

Magistrates sentenced Norman to nine weeks of custody and ordered her to pay £69.99 in compensation.
