Organisers are putting the finishing touches to this year’s Duffield Carnival, which runs from June 21-28.

The theme of this year’s event is children’s books and comics and will culminate in a special fancy dress parade on Saturday, June 27.

Preparations for the carnival have already begun, with the crowning of the carnival princess and her attendants earlier this month at St Alkmunds Church’s family fun day.

Carnival week begins in earnest with the treasure hunt, which is on June 21.

Further events taking place throughout carnival week include the Duffield 5 steeplechase, a BBQ organised by local churches and the children’s Sports Spectacular.

The main event of the week, the carnival procession, takes place on June 27 and leaves Avenue Road at 1.30pm to kick-start a day full of events, including live music until 9pm.

Sunday brings carnival week to a close with the five churches of Duffield coming together in the marquee on the Eyes Meadow.
