A NEW pedestrian crossing has been installed on the A6 in the centre of Milford, after 20 years of campaigning.
Residents of the village and local councillors were delighted after the crossing was put in between the Strutt Arms and the junction with Chevin Road.
The crossing will be used by, among others, children from Milford Primary School.
Belper Mayor Cllr Alan Cox, who is a member of the Belper and District Road Safety Group, said: “We’re all delighted – and relieved – to see this crossing.
“It’s a tribute to the residents, school and councillors who kept campaigning. Milford people could see the potential for accidents and I did fear it would take a fatality before we saw action.
“Thankfully, it didn’t come to that and we now have a safer village.”
Petitioning for a crossing started back in the early 1990s.
