Heanor Gate Science College paid thanks to a long serving caretaker this week for his 30 years maintaining the school grounds.
Heanor born-and-bred Philip Bamford, 60, was a student at the school himself before taking the job as part of the site staff in 1983.
The staunch Nottingham Forest fan says the school has changed a lot since he joined. He was a painter and decorator before taking up the post. He said: “I still look forward to coming to work every day and trying to help both staff and students alike.”
When he is not taking care of the school grounds Phil says he is a wildlife lover and member of the Derbyshire Badger Group. As a season ticket holder at the City Ground, Phil recalls the Division One Championship winning year of 1978 as the highlight of his Nottingham Forest supporting days.
Head teacher at Heanor Gate Rob Howard is pictured left with Phil here and described the caretaker as ‘a real stalwart’.
