Festival sows the seed of success

ABOUT 100 people gathered to celebrate the annual harvest festival of the former Belper church Friends of St Faith’s.

The group hosted the event in the field opposite the now closed church on Belper Lane End.

Basking in good weather, the congregation sat on straw bales and listened to a service by the chairman of the Friends, Gary Spendlove.

The order of service was taken by Rod Hawgood, with readings by John Morley, Lucy Spendlove and Pam Baines, and a prayer by Catherine Raynard.

Local children were invited to submit their harvest basket designs, which was won by Harriet Cowan.

The baskets were then auctioned off and all money raised was put towards a seat which will be situated at Dalley Wash in memory of the Rev Basil Wesson, who had been associated with the church for many years.

Mr Spendlove said of the day: “Everyone was so delighted to attend a special occasion in such a beautiful location.

“Thank you to Robert and Sharon Burdekin for the use of the field.”
