THE appetites of food and drink lovers are being whetted in anticipation of the annual Belper Food, Real Ale and Craft Festival.

Since it started out five years ago as the Belper Food Festival, the event has grown in size each year to become what it is today.

Now, locals cannot wait for the latest offering, which will cook up a storm on Sunday, July 17.

The festival will open at 10am in the town centre, on King Street.

One of the highlights this year will be a Britain’s Got Talent-style talent show by pupils from Belper School.

The school is organising a talent competition, with the prize for the winners being to perform at the festival.

Craft activities will be set up in the town centre and there will be 80 stalls selling a variety of foods. The ever-popular hog roast will be held at the Black Swan on the town’s Market Place.

Aside from the food and crafts, there will be a variety of musicians and dancers performing, including local groups Folk Frenzy, the Vanessa Millar School of Dance, and Splitz Dance School, who all did performances in the street last year.

A spokesman from Belper Town Council said: “It will bring a street-party atmosphere to the day.”

Entrance to the festival, which is being sponsored by the town council and Amber Valley Borough Council, is free.
