GIRL Guides in Belper have been given a £200 boost to their bid to attend an international jamboree.

The 2nd Belper St Peter’s Guides was given the cash towards the “BrumJAM” event by the Belper Lions.

The group, which meets at Belper Congregational Church and has 31 girls, is aiming to send a contingent to the event, but needs to find the money for new catering equipment before setting off.

In February they were given £500 by Belper county councillor Peter Makin towards the fundraising effort.

They will join more than 1,500 scouts, explorers and guides from across the world at BrumJAM, which is held in Blackwell, Birmingham.

This year, the event takes the theme of the Olympics when it is held between July 28 and August 4.
