Half of fire calls are false alarms

Half of all 999 calls attended by Belper firefighters last month were false alarms, according to official figures.

Statistics show that out of 22 call outs, 11 proved to be non-emergencies. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has been Tweeting false alarms figures for stations across the county this month. Latest Government figures estimate that the cost of false alarms in the UK is around £1 billion a year.
