It’s that time of year again, when we invite you to honour our community heroes.
We are launching our New Year Honours Awards for 2012 – and calling on you to nominate our unsung stars.
Many people across the town work tirelessly for the benefit of others and we are giving you the chance to name those you believe deserve special recognition.
We will be presenting our winners with certificates at a ceremony in Belper on January 11.
There is no age limit to those you can nominate and their good deeds can be anything from helping at a local club, encouraging eco campaigns and raising funds for charity to fetching the shopping for a neighbour or caring for a sick relative.
If you know someone who has gone the extra mile for the community – let us know.
Belper News editor Julie Crouch said: “There are many unsung heroes out there who help make our communities tick through their vital work and good deeds.
“These people do not seek out rewards for what they do in any shape or form, and without them our lives would be the poorer.
“We had some very worthy winners last time, but we know there are many more people out there who deserve our recognition for the things they do.
“Make sure you nominate someone you know about by filling in the coupon on page 18.”
In the News each week we print articles about generous people who are raising funds for charity or doing their bit for others and the area.

And, as your nominations start to flood in, we will be publishing articles on the people who have been put forward.
If you want to nominate someone, please fill in the coupon on page 18 of this newspaper. Drop your completed coupons in our Community Postbox at the News Corner, give them to reporter Rhys Thomas when he is at the Strutts Centre on Derby Road on Wednesday mornings, or drop them off at our office on Grosvenor Road, Ripley.
Nominations must be in by Friday, December 30.
Following the presentation ceremony we will print a list of winners and pictures from the event.
