AN inquest into the death of a Belper cotton mill worker ruled she died of natural causes.

Deputy coroner at Derby and South Derby Coroners’ Court Louise Pinder ruled retired Gillian Brierley, 75, of Ladywell Court, died of pulmonary fibrosis on November 22, but this was not caused through cotton dust inhaled at work in the 1970s and 1980s.

Pathologist Dr Andrew Hitchcock of Royal Derby Hospital said on the balance of probabilities cotton dust was unlikely to have caused the lung condition.
