EXCITED pupils from John Flamsteed Community School in Denby have taken part in an exchange visit to Japan.
During the trip, the year ten students, and a teacher, made a poignant visit to Hiroshima as well as stopping off in Kyoto, Toyota City and Nara.
After the first stop at Kiyomizudera Temple, Kyoto, pupil Matthew Whitehead said: “It was fascinating to know how much culture and tradition is squeezed into this magical city. I never knew about Japanese civilisation so this was an amazing experience!”
A memorable visit to Hiroshima took in the A-Bomb dome, which is a lasting memorial to the people who were killed when an atom bomb was dropped on the city in 1945.
Teacher Nikola Krbacevic said: “Students have had an opportunity to explore new cultures, learn about the world and develop a sense of understanding about their place within it.”
