CHILDREN at Ambergate Primary School have been conducting speed checks outside their school to urge motorists to slow down.
They joined PC Nick Bray from Ambergate Safer Neighbourhood Team to use the mobile speed detection device to catch drivers breaking the 30mph speed limit.
Head teacher Caroline Webster said: “Congestion and speeding is a real problem outside the school.
“By conducting this exercise it makes the children aware of the problem in the hope that they will pass important messages on to their parents about speeding and parking in the area.
“The youngsters also carried out a traffic survey, counting the numbers and different types of vehicles which were using the road. This will be used as part of their maths lessons.”
