Letters: Council should be slimmed down

Amber Valley Borough Council has written to residents to conduct a consultation into the green waste collection.

One option which the council ought to consider, but chooses not to place for consideration is that the number of councillors should be reduced by two thirds.

This would save the council having to pay significant amounts in councillors’ expenses and allowances.

The resultant saving could allow the continuing “free service” to be maintained.

In the interim until elections took place in May on redrawn boundaries councillors should voluntarily agree not to seek any further expenses or allowances.
