Letters: Town needs chain stores to move in

Tesco has unveiled reduced profits

While it is no surprise that the owner of a rival coffee shop feels it is better to try andprevent a national chain coffee shop to move into town, I fail to understand Belper’s obsessive objections to national retailers.

We lost Tesco and now have houses instead.

The town needs national retailers as they attract each other.

We have a ‘vibrant’ high street but its full of charity shops.

Belper is known as a place to eat and drink so let’s have another.

Other retailers have survived Iceland, Morrison’s etc so I’m sure the good coffee bars will survive, after all I hardly see Costa as a rival to Fresh Basil.
