Luscious lawns on display at open garden event
Luscious lawns and pretty plants were on display as Belper's secret gardens opened to the public during a weekend-long event.
After last year’s success, the town hosted the Open Garden Weekend again, giving visitors chance to follow a trail of gardens and witness the hidden garden gems of historic and beautiful Belper.
Around 25 gardens were open during the event on Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26.
Refreshments, home-grown plant sales and entertainment were also on offer, and all proceeds from entrance fees will go to a number of local charities.
Organiser Kathy Fairweather, who also opened her garden at Windmill Rise, said: “The enthusiasm of some 500 or so visitors was definitely not dampened down by the weather, they came from far and wide to enjoy Belper and its wonderful gardens. It was wonderful to see visitors from as far as Scotland and Essex enjoying the home baked refreshments whilst being entertained by local musicians in one of our gardens – a number of the gardens also sold home grown plants. “Apart from showcasing our wonderful town, this event brought many members and organisations of the community together and in the process helped us raise almost £2,000 for a number of local and national charities.”
