A talented Belper student has won a £400 bursary to support her move into higher education.
Lydia Atkinson, 19, who is studying for an art diploma at Derby College was one of five students shortlisted for a Derby Decorative and Fine Arts Society (DFAS) Bursary award.
The former Belper School pupil impressed judges with two giant paintings of her father and younger brother during an exhibition in Derby. Shewill be going to Nottingham Trent University in September to study Fine Art.
Miss Atkinson said: “I am really pleased to have won as this will be very useful to buy materials for my university degree.”
Anita Pearson, from DFAS, said: “We were particularly impressed with the skill and creativity shown by Lydia who has produced something so incredible.”
