Mail con artists are targeted by council

Residents plagued by scam mail are being urged to help the fight back against fake lotteries, get-rich-quick schemes and bogus prize draws.

Derbyshire County Council is holding an 11-day crackdown on scam letters, leaflets and flyers.

Its ‘Scamnesty’ is part of a national campaign led by the Trading Standards Institute to fight back against fraudsters causing misery to thousands of people nationwide.

The authority’s trading standards team is asking people to drop off suspect mail at Belper library from May 20-31.

Derbyshire Citizens’ Advice Bureau is also taking part and staff will collect mail at its offices in Belper,
