Mayor visits kids

COUNCILLORS of the future at a Belper school were delighted to receive a visit from a special guest.

Belper Mayor Cllr Alan Cox popped along to Long Row Primary School to congratulate the winners of the school’s elections.

The 11 victorious youngsters were voted in by their classmates and will now have a say on matters such as how to improve the school and how to raise money.

Year two teacher Donna Hamlin said: “The children quite like it. Most of them want to represent their class. “And it was quite nice for them to see the mayor with his chain. It was a bit special for them.”

The 11 elected were Amy Mothershaw, Frank Wilson-Caines, Max Hazlewood, Jack Bailey, Katie Parkin, Adam Lacey, Josh Turner, Lucy Harris, William Dunning, Jess Jackson and Jamie Cutts. They are aged between six and 11 years.
