Food lovers will be able to pick and eat more plants around Milford as part of the village’s 2013 Britain in Bloom entry.
Volunteers from community gardening group Blooming Milford are planting special self-watering containers with culinary herbs for use by residents as well as more traditional floral displays and a community orchard. Jeff Gouldthorpe of Blooming Milford said. “This year’s focus on edible planting fitted in perfectly with our plans to provide additional herb planters to the south west of the village. We managed to get local council permission and assistance to refurbish a neglected area, creating a community orchard where apple, pear and plum trees are grown. We are also growing rhubarb, herbs and ornamental plants and shrubs. Residents are able to pick and use the herbs and edible plants.”
