BELPER’S MP has backed the recent launch of the new non-emergency 101 number to call the police.
Pauline Latham said: “I really welcome this step in modernising the way in which we can report crime. The introduction of the 101 number marks one of the most significant changes in the way people contact the police since 999 was introduced nearly 70 years ago.”
The number 101 is designed to be memorable to the public. It is for when people need to report crimes and concerns to their local police that do not require an emergency response.
It costs 15p per call from mobile phones and landlines, no matter how long the call or what time of day.
