A MUSIC festival set up to raise cash for a seriously-ill Belper woman is to take centre stage for a second time.
PennyFest2 is the follow-up to the original PennyFest, which took place in December.
The event is in aid of Penny Wheeler, 52, of Beaurepaire Gardens, who suffers from two rare conditions — pulmonary fibrosis and scleroderma.
Penny’s eldest son, Dan, has organised the gig. He has brought together local bands and musicians from across Derbyshire for a day of live music at Vines Bar, on Sadler Gate, Derby, on Sunday, June 26.
Dan, whose band Plans and Apologies will headline PennyFest2, also organised last year’s first festival.
He said: “The purpose of PennyFest2 is to raise cash for my mother’s fund which was set up in November, 2010, but it is also an opportunity to get some of the best bands that Derby has to offer altogether at one venue for live music fans to enjoy.”
Dan has enlisted the help of Pete Salter and Holly Booth, who run Derby-based online magazine Hatch’d, and Apples For Discos, a group of Derby-based music promoters, to help manage and organise the festival.
“PennyFest2 promises to be bigger and better than last year’s event,” said Dan. “I have received some great support from Pete Salter and from a wide network of friends and contacts in and around Derby.”
Ten bands will play at the event, which starts at 2pm. The bands include Crash of Rhinos, Cheap Jazz, My Psychoanalyst, Emphemetry, Haiku Salut, Alice Ferguson, Josh Happens, Wander Phantom and James Warner Prophecies.
The event is for those aged over 18 only and it costs £5 to get in.
There will be a selection of food on offer throughout the day, and festival-goers will also be able to buy jewellery, crafts, vintage clothing and a selection of photography and illustrations from local artists and designers.
There will be a raffle of prizes such as a £250 photography experience, a recording studio session, and Derby County tickets. All proceeds will go to Penny’s Fund. For more information on PennyFest2 visit the Facebook page or become a follower on Twitter @PENNYFEST2.
