Belper Town may have come to the end of a forgettable season on the pitch, but the club is looking towards the future.
The club will head into the 2015-16 Evo-Stik First Division anticipating a promotion push as they bid to make an immediate return to the Northern Premier League.
And the club are now asking the local community to pitch in for a few hours a week as they prepare to lay the foundations for a title charge.
Whether it’s helping to mow the pitch, touching up areas around the ground or helping maintain the website, club secretary Dave Laughlin says there is always something to help out with.
During his 36 years associated with the club, Dave has undertaken a number of roles.
From treasurer to programme editor, Dave says that he has seen it all in his three-and-a-half decades at the club.
“I’ve been involved with the club since 1979, first as a supporter before moving on to pretty much every role possible,” said Dave.
“I’ve seen some great teams and some poor ones too.
“We’re looking for people to contribute a couple of hours a week.
“We need people to fill a number of roles, from stewarding, maintaining the website, decorating the ground etc.
“All year round there’s always something to help out with at the club.
“I always try and find something that volunteers enjoy doing.
“People have got to enjoy doing something, especially if they are going to give up their time for free.”
The club, which plays at Christchurch Meadow off Bridge Street, currently have a number of volunteers who help out but Dave says there is always the need for new blood. He added: “We’ve got about half-a-dozen volunteers at the minute but we could always do with more.
“It would reduce the workload on them and as I say, there’s a vast range of stuff to do so there’s something for everyone to get involved with, no matter how small.”
