Derbyshire’s biggest annual food and drink celebration will have a new home for 2013.
Derbyshire County Council’s popular Derbyshire Food and Drink Fair will take place in the grounds of Elvaston Castle, near Derby, on May 18 and 19.
And the authority is planning to build on the growing popularity of the fair – which this year attracted a record crowd of 13,500 – with new attractions.
For the first time the county council is looking at running a ‘Meet the Producer’ industry event the day before the main two day fair.
And it is also considering the introduction of evening entertainment on the Saturday – including live music and a film showing.
Councillor Kevin Parkinson, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Elvaston is a beautiful setting and we are looking forward to yet another wonderful celebration of the best food and drink from Derbyshire and further afield.
“We’re proud of the fair which goes from strength to strength – not only giving thousands of people a great day out, but also boosting the local economy.
“And we’re always looking at ways to build on its success and improve it ¬– both for visitors and exhibitors. That’s why we’re considering what new attractions we can add for our 2013 event.”
The county council launched the fair over a decade ago to help local traders and producers to promote their goods and boost the economy.
It has since been held at Bolsover Castle, Kedleston Hall, and Hardwick Hall, where 13,500 visitors attended over two days this year.
A host of leading celebrity chefs have staged cooking demonstrations at the fair including Simon Rimmer, Dean Edwards, Brian Turner, and Levi Roots.
Over 150 stalls sell the best of Derbyshire food and drink as well as exotic foods from further afield.
And an arts and craft section adds to the entertainment with around 50 local artists displaying and selling their wares which range from contemporary art to traditional craftwork.
