The new-look Kilburn Post Office has been officially opened, offering customers a more modern branch which is open for an extra 40 hours a week.

Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills cut the ribbon to mark its relocation to Metro Foods, 53 – 55 Chapel Street.

He said: “I am delighted to officially open the re-located Kilburn Post Office. Not only has the village retained a Post Office, it has actually really benefitted as the new branch is open seven days a week from early until late. That’s very handy.

“I want to thank Krishan Joshi of MetroFoods for taking on the Post Office.”

The new Postmaster Mr Joshi organised a community morning with refreshments as well as samples of fine locally-produced food and drinks.

MetroFoods will be making a charity pledge to provide the village’s parish council with a defibrillator for the long-term benefit of the local community.

Kilburn Post Office services are now provided throughout shop opening hours, Monday to Sunday between 7.30am and 8.30pm.

This is an extra 40 hours a week of Post Office services including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.

Mr Joshi said: “We are delighted to have taken on the Post Office and the local community is really pleased.

“The new Post Office counter has fitted in well within the store and customers are impressed with the longer opening hours.

“We have saved jobs that might have been lost and we continue to create more employment for the area.”
