Amber Valley Borough Council has purchased some new pool steps for Belper Leisure Centre, helping to improve access into the pool.

Duty Manager of the centre, Alex Hardy, said: “We are very thankful for the financial support from Amber Valley Borough Council and are pleased that our pool is now fully accessible to all.”

Christine Doughty of Kilburn is a regular leisure centre customer.

She commented: “These new steps are an extension of my freedom, enabling me to access the pool as well as the gym which I could not do as easily before.

“I am really looking forward to starting to swim again on a regular basis.”

The borough council is currently working to improve the opportunities for disabled people of all ages to participate in sport and physical activity.

Cllr Stephen Hayes commented: “With our current push on accessibility and inclusive sport we are very pleased to be able to support the Centre by making it easy for people of all ages and abilities to access the pool.”
