New York resident wins Belper short plays competition

John Doble, a resident of New York City, has been named as the winner of the Belper Short Plays Competition 2014.

‘A Serious Person’ emerged as the judge’s choice from more than 70 entries.

The play is described as “a man meets an energetic woman with outlandish opinions about everything under the sun, including evolution.”

Competition organiser George Gunby said: “The overall standard was very good and ‘A Serious Person’ is a worthy winner. It will be featured during the Belper Arts Festival in May and we hope John Doble will be able to join us.”

John Doble, who lives in Manhattan, has had several plays performed in New York.
