Healthy hearts were the focus of an open day at a Belper-based packaging firm.
The event at DS Smith on Derby Road in Belper showed visitors how staff are encouraged to live healthy lifestyles.
There were also lots of fun activities including face painting, a bouncy castle and fire engine, as well as a raffle to raise funds for national heart charity Heart Research.
Simone Chuck from the DS Smith plant in Belper said: “We thought it would be a great idea to show family and friends what the plant actually does and how it supports our customers by helping them to reduce the cost of their packaging and the waste they produce.
“The fundraising for Heart Research UK ties in with our programme in getting our staff to eat healthier and do more exercise.”
The firm is currently carrying out healthy heart checks in conjunction with Heart Research across all sites within the UK Packaging Division of DS Smith. Heart Research UK funds research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease.
The DS Smith Packaging factory in Belper employs 170 people, and has been in the town since the early 1960s.
Working to produce recycled corrugated packaging for some of the world’s largest brands the company underwent a £6million expansion in 2012 when a state-of-the-art printing press was fitted among other improvements.
Worldwide, DS Smith is made up of a team of over 21,500 employees across 25 countries.
