A Belper pensioner is to take on a gruelling 170 mile cycle next week to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
BHF volunteer Arthur Roberts, 71, will saddle up for the challenging coast to coast cycle, from Morecambe to Bridlington, on Tuesday, September 4.
He will be joined by his brother-in-law Howard Owen, 58, of Cheshire, and family friend Liz Kopp, 65, of Pilsley, Derbyshire.
Arthur said: “After a number of my family and friends had heart attacks, I became treasurer of the Little Eaton, Belper and Duffield Branch of the BHF two years ago. Heart disease is extremely widespread in this country – it’s the UK’s biggest killer.
“For a number of years I have cycled to keep fit and have always wanted to complete a long distance ride so combining this with fundraising was an obvious choice. We hope to complete the route within four days, which will allow us a little time for sightseeing too.”
Sophie Jardine, BHF Fundraising Manager in Derbyshire, said: “Arthur has chosen to undertake a challenging cycle to help raise funds for BHF and really is showing his dedication and commitment to the cause.” To sponsor Arthur, visit justgiving.com/ArthurRoberts
