Belper's new Swiss Tearoom is due to open in the Riverside Gardens in late spring.

The eagerly-awaited new Swiss Tearoom will be a refreshment stop for visitors to the River Gardens.

Councillor Ben Bellamy, portfolio holder for regeneration and community safety: "Although we have been waiting a long time for the new tearoom to take shape, the timing for its opening is perfect, just as the lockdown restrictions begin to ease and the weather improves."

Decorators and window installers are due to start work on the new building where the exterior has been clad in larch timber.

Coun Ben Bellamy and Coun Emma Monkman, deputy cabinet member for environment, take a look inside the new tearoom.

Belper-based Valiant Group has supplied the new building with a free air source heat pump that will deliver renewably sourced heat and water.

The tearoom operator, Deep Beat Entertainment, is in the process of apply for a licence to serve takeaway drinks and light refreshments from a pop-up facility prior to the main building being officially opened.
