Relate has been providing counselling and support in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire for more than 40 years.

Although it cannot currently help people face-to-face, the charity is embracing technology to offer support.

Relate insists it is still there to help people who are experiencing relationship problems during the current crisis.Relate insists it is still there to help people who are experiencing relationship problems during the current crisis.

Amy Harris, Relate chief executive, said: “In response to Covid-19, we know local people need our help more than ever – so we’re now delivering our full service via video and telephone until it is safe to return face-to-face.

“We have a team of very experienced Relate counsellors who can help usually within a few days of calling us.

“We provide counselling for individuals, couples, 11 to 18-year-olds and also psychosexual therapy.

“It’s a scary time for everyone right now and many people feel isolated, anxious or depressed.

“Many people who already faced a battle with mental health issues now have an even harder challenge to manage them without their usual support networks.

“Our counsellors can provide a safe, confidential space to talk through how you are feeling and help find ways to improve coping strategies and relationships either with yourself or those around you.

“We can also help you to find support from other local organisations that are also delivering an amazing service in the most difficult of circumstances.

“All these things can help to make the current situation that little bit easier.

“We would encourage everyone to keep talking and know that they are not on their own.”

Amy added: “More than half of our counselling sessions are currently free of charge as a result of existing grants and work under the NHS IAPT contract – meaning anyone with anxiety or depression can access our service for free on their own or with their partner.

“However, as a small charity we also need your help more than ever.

“If you are able to donate then please visit www.relatechesterfield.org.uk and follow the link to our JustGiving page or simply pass on our details to anyone you know who could benefit from our service at this time.
