North Derbyshire man choked to death while intoxicated with alcohol

Maintenance worker Graham John White, 64, died at his home on Ravenshorn Way, Renishaw, on March 6 this year.
An inquest at Chesterfield Town Hall heard Mr White’s death was caused by ‘food bolus obstructing his airway when he had consumed an amount of alcohol that would have impaired his gag reflex’.

Hide AdAssistant coroner for Derbyshire Emma Serrano recorded a verdict of misadventure contributed to by alcohol intoxication at the hearing, which was held behind closed doors because of the Covid-19 crisis on Tuesday, April 7.
The medical cause of death on the record of inquest released by Chesterfield coroners’ court is given as asphyxia, upper respiratory tract obstruction, food bolus and cerebral infarction and alcohol intoxication.
Mr White was married and had been born in Renishaw.
