Snow warning issued for Derbyshire

Meteorologists have issued a warning about snow and ice in Derbyshire.

The Met Office’s yellow ‘be aware’ alert is valid for the county between 6pm on Wednesday and 2pm on Thursday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Showers of rain, sleet and snow will move south across parts of Scotland, north Wales and north England through Wednesday evening and into Thursday.

“While not all areas will see these, where they do fall ice is expected to form.

“The showers are likely to fall as snow at times, mainly above 200m but to some lower levels.

“Some accumulations of 1-3cm are likely, again mainly over higher ground.”

The spokesperson added: “People can expect some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

“There may be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

“Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.”
