‘Very popular’ Chesterfield man remembered a year after coronavirus claimed his life

Mark Green, who was born in Wingerworth and lived in Hasland for 45 years, passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 47 on April 12, 2020.
Mark, who was affectionately known as ‘Bean’, worked as a driver at Pinxton-based Freeway Coaches and was also a funeral assistant at Hasland-based Harold Lilleker and Sons.

Hide AdDrew Lilleker, a director at Harold Lilleker and Sons, told the Derbyshire Times: “Mark was a very well-known and popular character who never failed to make people laugh.
“When someone had lost a relative and Lilleker’s were called, it could have been the middle of the night, Mark would be there with our team and he would always say ‘it will be OK flower’. These words helped so many people.
“We all remember Mark a year on – he will never be forgotten.”
Mark had many hobbies and interests.
He had a passion for football and ran Hasland Wanderers – now called ‘Green United’ in his memory.
Mark loved boxing – both watching and participating.

Hide AdHe liked going on holiday in Cornwall and enjoyed gambling and playing cards, particularly poker. Mark has since been nicknamed ‘King of Hearts’ due to his love of poker and his own big heart.
Above all and most importantly, Mark loved spending time with his family and friends.
He always used to say ‘family first’ and tried his hardest to drill that into everyone he met.
