a PLAYGROUP in Belper has raised a bumper £600 from a plant and cake sale in the town.

Openwoodgate Playgroup held its annual sale on Saturday at the Belper Community Rooms, behind the library on Bridge Street.

There were stalls selling books and jewellery, as well as children’s stalls offering temporary tattoos and guess-the-name-of-the-bear competitions. Now the playgroup, which is based at St Mark’s Church Hall, has praised five local businesses in Belper for their generosity.

Focus DIY store provided plants for the sale, Morrisons supermarket and Wilkinson handed over gift vouchers, T.T Fixings donated gardening equipment for the raffle and Sweet Memories, on King Street, gave sweets for a guess-how-many-sweets-are-in-the-jar competition.

Suzanne Parry-Jones, an administrator at the playgroup, said: “The event went really well and we would like to thank local businesses and the people who donated.

“A big thank you to Focus, Morrisons, Wilkinson, TT Fixings and Sweet Memories, as well as to friends, family and parents who supported us.”

The cash raised will be used for equipment for the playgroup.
