A NEW £58,000 playground in Holbrook has been completed and given the seal of approval by Amber Valley’s MP.
Conservative Nigel Mills went along to Mellors Lane park in the village on Friday to mark the last piece of equipment — a slide — being installed.
The play equipment for the park was funded by National Lottery money and was installed and approved by the Amber Valley Landscaping Services Management team.
The building of the new play area was achieved in part due to the hard work of 16-year-old Holbrook girl Emily Staton.
She led a small group of teenagers asking for an upgrade to the play area.
Emily’s enthusiasm provided the incentive for the Parish Plan Group to secure the £58,000 funding from the Lottery.
Her determination helped her win a prestigious Derbyshire Young Achiever Award in December.
Emily was one of eight inspirational winners from the Belper area and landed her accolade for ‘commitment to improving their school, community or local environment’.
