A popular children’s play area in Belper remains closed after a lorry crashed into a wall last week.
The Belper River Gardens’ play area, situated on Matlock Road, remained closed after the bank holiday following the incident which occurred last Friday morning.
A Royal Mail lorry crashed into the wall causing it to cascade into the play area.
The crash happened at around 7.25am and, according to police, the vehicle hit a lamp post and ended up with its front end wedged on the parapet of the bridge on Matlock Road, Belper, heading north out of the town close to the East Mill.
It is not known how the incident started.
As a result of the incident, the road was closed with traffic being diverted to alternative routes.
With regards to the play area’s re-opening, Amber Valley Borough Council say they will keep residents updated.
A council spokesperson said: “The wall remains unstable and therefore the play area will remain closed until work begins after the Bank Holiday to repair this. We will keep residents updated.”
