Police chase down drink driving suspect

Police chased a man through Belper town centre before arresting him on suspicion of drink-driving.

Officers were called when the man who was driving a Peugeot 206 was involved in collision with a Ford C-Max as he allegedly tried to overtake three cars on Nottingham Road approaching its junction with The Butts.

The man allegedly did not stop following the accident, and instead drove his vehicle on to the Market Place where he proceeded to park -up.

He was then approached by an officer when he ran-off towards the Coppice car park.

The officer gave chase and arrested the man following a pursuit which went through a jitty to High Pavement.

The incident took place at around 10.30pm on Wednesday, April 2.
