Praise has been heaped on Derbyshire’s gritting teams for their efforts during the current cold snap.
Workers have been out on numerous occasions at all times of the day over the last week amid freezing temperatures and snow to help keep the county’s roads clear.
Scores of residents have contacted our newsroom to say they had seen gritters on their street. They also wanted to thank staff.
Among the many comments, John Hudghton said: “They’re doing a brilliant job.”
Joe Rosato said: “I’ve seen several. They’re out in force!”
Kaz Lumb said: “The guys who go out gritting do a fab job.”
Louise Marsden said: “They seem to finally have got their act together.”
Derbyshire County Council came under fire over its gritting operation when heavy snow last fell in Derbyshire at Christmastime.
At the time, the council issued a statement saying: “It’s a myth that grit is the solution to all winter weather problems. Unfortunately that’s not the case.”
