Four Belper School students beat off competition from 61,000 students nationwide to reach the finals of a foreign language spelling competition.

Year seven pupils Florence Jansen, Julia Power, Matthew Prichett and Charlotte Creed (pictured) represented the John O’Gaunts Way School at the East Midlands Regional Finals of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee at Corby Business Academy in Northamptonshire.

They reached the last 91 out of nearly 6,300 entrants in the East Midlands and over 61,000 nation wide.

School spokesman Joan Hardy said: “It was a high pressure experience as they were competing against some very high achieving schools.

“All entrants are to be congratulated.”
