Pupils visit the reserve

PUPILS from Mapperley CE Primary School have become the first school group to visit Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s new Woodside Nature Reserve in Shipley.

All 60 youngsters from the school visited to plant wildlife-friendly hedgerow trees, including hawthorn and blackthorn, and also met the reserve’s Highland cattle and Jacob’s sheep and lambs.

Woodside Nature Reserve is the largest reserve in Derbyshire outside the Peak District National Park and is on land next to Shipley Country Park between Ilkeston and Heanor. The Trust purchased the land from Derbyshire County Council last year.
