Race to redesign tea rooms nears conclusion

the six architects bidding to redesign Belper’s historic Swiss Tea Rooms are to get a final chance to impress.

For they will go before the five-strong panel of judges on Thursday, June 2, at the town hall in Ripley to present their case.

During what will be a day-long affair, the companies behind each of the six proposals will be able to put forward reasons why their design should be chosen to replace the rundown tea rooms.

Luke Barrett, communications manager at Amber Valley Borough Council, said: “The six shortlisted architects bidding for the chance to redesign Belper’s Tea Rooms will get to make their final bid to the judging panel.

“Following the presentation from each of the architects about why their design should be chosen, the panel is expected to make a final recommendation about which of the shortlisted designs will be taken forward for further consideration by full council.

“Any recommendation will be based on the outcome of the presentations and the results of the public consultation process.”

The presentation on June 2 is taking place because some of the architects asked for it.
