Reminder to dog owners after three lambs are killed in Amber Valley

Police are urging dog owners to keep their pets on leads when walking near livestock, after reports of sheep worrying in Amber Valley.

Officers were called to a farm in Idridgehay earlier this month to reports of sheep worrying. Three lambs died and one ewe was badly injured in the incident.

Incidents have also been reported in Mugginton and Ambergate Woods over the last few weeks.

PC Dave Chambers from the Duffield, Belper Rural and Holloway Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Incidents like these cause a great deal of distress to farmers and their animals.

“I am urging dog owners to be more considerate when out walking their pets and ensure they are under control, especially when in the countryside and near to farm land.

“I would also like to remind people that farmers are lawfully permitted to shoot dogs found attacking or worrying livestock on their land. Anyone identified as being the owner of a dog worrying livestock can also face prosecution.”
