Resident’s concern over rail plans

Councillors are set to consider how Belper will be affected by the electrification of the Midland Mainline, following concerns from a resident.

An £800m plan to electrify the route between Sheffield and London was outlined by transport secretary Justine Greening in July.

However, Rupert Chalkey is asking Belper Town Council to consider how the extra electricity masts and fencing that could be needed to carry the current through Belper would impact on the attractiveness of the town. The matter is due to be discussed at a meeting on October 9.
