Rotarians gave-up their time to carry out a litter pick in Belper - and filled 26 bags with rubbish.

Twelve members of Belper and Duffield Rotary Club, along with four members of the public and two Belper Town Council staff took part in the trawl for trash.

The Belper High School area, The Parks woodland and estate, Whitemoor Recreation area, Bridge Street and the Methodist Chapel, the Triangle and Wyver Lane areas were among the locations which benefited.

Around 2.25 million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day. Amber Valley Borough Council spends around £2.69 for every resident in the area on street cleaning and litter collection every year. Belper and Duffield Rotary meets at 7.30pm on a Monday evening at the Lion Hotel, Belper.
