Belper School has hit the back of the net after scoring more than £208,000 in funding for a new PE classroom.

The money has been awarded as part of an agreement with the developer of a housing site at Nottingham Road.

Money from the agreement - known as ‘Section 106’ funding - will be handed over to the school’s governing body, which will be responsible for arranging the building work.

The governing body will be expected to meet council obligations to contribute to a stong local economy.

As a result members will be expected to demonstrate the extent to which building work has been handled by the local supply chain.

Physical education classrooms are often used when weather is unsuitable for outdoor sports to discuss tactics and strategies, discuss recent performances and plan for future ones.

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils are physically active for sustained periods of time, engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives.
