ENERGETIC Scouts raised £201 by cycling the distance between New York and Belper’s twin town, Pawtucket — and a bit more!

Twelve Scouts from groups in Belper and the surrounding villages joined three leaders and friends and family to cycle, on five exercise bikes, 292 miles between them. They did the challenge at the Westfield shopping centre in Derby.

The money will help fund a trip to a Scouting event in Missouri, USA, in July. Americans Scouts had come over to Belper two years ago for the Peak 2010 event.

Parent Lisa Clifford said: “We had a great day. We raised £201, which wasn’t bad for a random event in a shopping centre. The Westfield gave us the pitch free and were really amazing.”

The bikes were provided by The Fit Pit. The Belper gym stepped in at the last minute to save the day after the bikes the Scouts were going to use became unavailable.
